Art
Art
is a fundamental element of education. The opportunity for students
to have an art and design education enables them to build upon their
own understanding and appreciation of aesthetics and the visual
arts. Art stimulates creativity and imagination through the integral
elements of line, colour, form, pattern and texture. The act of
using a wide range of materials whilst referring to the work of
relevant artists, crafts persons and designers allows the
development and communication of a highly personal and individual
visual language.
Philosophy
The department believes in the potential of all students; each
individual is encouraged by staff to develop existing skills and
actively explore the materials and opportunities offered to them at
Bournemouth School. The department seeks to address the issues or
roles and place of Art and Design both in the outside world and
within the context of the community, the school and its pupils. The
department seeks to provide an environment which gives the student
as much exposure to traditional and contemporary art as possible,
experiencing works first hand whenever able.
